The basic agricultural parameters considered for all scenarios in this study were as follows: 200 days season; production of 4 million tonnes of sugarcane stalks; mechanized planting using 20 tonnes of cane seedlings per hectare; mechanized sugarcane harvesting without previous burning (green harvesting); sugarcane stalks yield of 80 tonnes per hectare per year; production of 140 kg of straw (dry mass) per tonne of stalks (wet basis); transportation capacity of 184 m3 per truck with variable transport density in integral harvesting system according to the straw recovery fractions; and average transport distance of 35 km. As Table 7.37 shows, larger straw recovery fractions promote higher electricity surplus. As previously described, the base scenario is represented by an autonomous distillery with opti- mized technology processing 4 million tonnes of sugarcane stalks (similar to the 1G-Aut-Op scenario described in Sect. 7.1, except for the straw recovery fraction which is zero in the base case). As expected, the supplementary investment increases as much as the straw recovery fraction gets higher. For other straw recovery fractions such as 50 and 70 %, the B50 and B70 scenarios presented slightly higher internal rates of return and NPVs if compared with I50 and I70 scenarios.
